Pleasant Hill Cemetery Summary

The bugs were very unkind that day and the sky was threatening so I aimed for the tombstones that I was most interested in.  I did feel there was a lot more to explore in this cemetery because it is filled with Maske, Walters, Smith and a more.

This brings the Pleasant Hill Cemetery photographs to a close and it is time to move on again to other cemeteries and topics.

This also ends my trip to North Carolina which in retrospect was very interesting and quite unique.  Unfortunately I do not have any ancestors in my world who came from this state so it was all client work, unless my McDonald's side lived here for awhile before heading to Canada? Yes, interesting?

Here is a Family Tree by a T. Davis and he does have some Walters and their family information as featured in the tombstones that I have shared.  You can even download a GEDCOM.

My trip was not all work but a great deal of play.  We visited Biltmore Mansion in Asheville for a couple of days and I am ready to move in.  Another stop and wonderful place was the Carolina Rapter Center .  We followed that with the Latte Plantation

Biltmore from the Lake

Did I mention the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library in Charlotte, NC?  I wanted to take it home with me or just live there.  Go visit, it is a library that you will find very interesting and very wonderful.  They have a genealogical and history area upstairs in the North Carolina Room and it was heaven.  http://www.cmstory.org/

Don't forget to study the backside of a tombstone, it might help or give more information,
in this case, it doesn't but some do.

Tombstone Tuesday: Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Union Co., North Carolina

It is time to resume my trip to North Carolina and finished up with the photographs I took of Pleasant Hill Cemetery in New Salem Twp., Union County, North Carolina.  Union County is to the southeast of Charlotte, NC. which is Mecklenburgh County.

Here is an alpha listing of this cemetery.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jganis/unionco/PleasantHillBaptist.html

Find A Grave has photos of this cemetery and a map which really can help.  When I was trying to locate it this posting of the tombstones did not exist and it was a little challenging.  This will be a great back up to the photos I present in the next posts.

The Rootsweb link describes this cemetery as "New Salem Road, cross Hwy 218 right on Old Kennedy Foard (Ford) Road. Founded 1868."  Actually the road was called Pleasant Hill Church Road.

The church is right across from the cemetery.

I had a car on my tail and this person was not forgiving. These country roads mean you have to go a little farther than you think.  I found it after a little back and forth on Hwy 218 and 205. I would suggest you drive up Hwy 218 to Hwy 205 and turn right and go slow till you see the Old Kennedy Ford Rd sign but be careful I think I missed it.  The other option is to take Pleasant Hill Church Rd. off of Hwy 218.

The day as I remember was hot and muggy.  The bugs were unforgiving and driving me crazy.  The sky was threatening a nasty thunderstorm which meant I had to move quickly.  So these are overview photographs with some specific photos that would be of value for Walters, Kiker and Jordan descendants.
