Tombstone Tuesday: Elmwood Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba

My roots are deep in Canada.  The next cemetery is in Winnipeg.  It is the Elmwood Cemetery where my great grandfather Edmund Boardman is buried along with other family members like his oldest son Edmund James Boardman and wife Jessie.  I feature them on my blog:  The Boardmans and Browns of Winnipeg, A Canadian Story:

Find A Grave has some of the graves or burials listed but my family is not mentioned.

This link is to the cemetery website with the history, contact information and a map of the cemetery layout.

I have never visited Elmwood Cemetery. I hired a researcher to assist me in my genealogical quest and he provided these photographs.  He has given his permission for me to publish them.  His name is Rick McLellan and he is active in the Manitoba Genealogical Society (MGS).

This link explains the MGS's cemetery transcription process:

Rick gave me a copy of page 701 from one of the cemetery transcription books:  "Elmwood Cemetery, Section 8, 88 Hespeler Avenue, City of Winnipeg #1237.  My family is about halfway down the page.
"BOARDMAN/Edmund/husband of Charlotte A. Boardman/died Oct. 28, 1908, aged 59 yrs./ Edmund James/1879-1935 (bur. 14 May), Jessie R./1881-1955 (bur. 3 Aug.), (BOARDMAN/infant bu. 15 Oct. 1940)."  (Note: This is only a some of the family burials.)
My great grandmother Charlotte McMurray Boardman, Edmund's wife, is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California (near Pasadena) along with one of her 4 sons, William Boardman.

Below are views of Elmwood Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Mr. McLellan was working for me so he was very specific about what graves he took pictures of and focused on the people listed on the page he gave me from the cemetery book.  In these photos he was giving me a general overall look at the graves in their surroundings.  He then supplied me with specific grave photos which I have published on my Boardman & Brown Blog - see link above.
